This is the only picture of me on New Year's Eve. The rest if any were far too scandalous no doubt. It was pretty epic all in all. Saw things that surprised even me. My only regret was the total & complete lack of any regrets. No stone was left unturned, no flake was left unsifted and no bean was left unplanted... Could it have been better? Perhaps... That's kinda asking a lot however...

New to me guitar from the 60's Adda Lee

So this is my new guitar... Meet 'Adda Lee' ... I bought Adda from a 62 year old hermit in the desert named simply, Bob. Bob claimed that he himself had acquired this very guitar from another man about 20 years ago or so if I remember correctly. That man was some sort of semi-professional musician that made this thing himself in the 60's... Ole Bob was quite the character and if my suspicion serves me correctly I think he may have been on 1 or many different narcotics. Maybe not, I dunno he was nice enough I suppose. Weird guy though but hey who isn't, right? Anyways ole Bob fucked the wiring up good and as you can see it only has the one pickup. The volume knob doesn't work and all the various switches don't work either. Still, it's a great sounding little champ and running it through my computer with Guitar Rig 5 and other plugins it's quite nice actually. I'll be fixing the wiring and adding new pickups as soon as I can... And yes, that IS an all metal pick guard! Heh heh.

Over the years I've become fond of used instruments, they have a history & a feel to them that the stuff you buy fresh from shops just lack... Here's some pics of the gear I'll be using to record well everything... I don't have all of it setup yet, things like the power filter and the headphone amplifier oh and also the Vocopro for the mics which I may or may not use depending since Ableton already has a really sweet mastering suite and tons of compressors and warmers and reverbs. All types of effects both built in and 3rd party with 32 inputs that's mics or instruments, 4 midi ports and all of it is firewire...

It'll be interesting to see how the vocalist will come out tomorrow that I'll be recording. I hope I don't have to spend too much time with mic placement lol... Doesn't have to be perfect but I would like it to sound decent for them. We'll see! Anyways here's the pics

Just watched "30 Century Man" a documentary about the musician Scott Walker. I have to say it was truly inspiring and quite a lovely nugget to come across so technically late in my creative career as it is...

Apparently he's somewhat of a hero to a lot of the artists I already enjoy. I just love finding things like this. I've been playing a bunch of his tracks on Blip and generally checking his work out. It's really something else, it gives me some of the same feelings as when I listen to a band like Spiritualized or some of the darker songs from Suede.

It's not everybody's cup of tea. Especially if you're looking for much meaning or structure or hooks & melody for that matter. Still there's something about the sum of the parts that makes it so great... Check him out if you haven't already. I know I'm glad I had the chance to find out about him.

Just watched the most touching little short film about this old couple finding a bag of ecstasy and using it to get back in touch with themselves and each other, every Wednesday.

Drugs tend to do a lot of bad things but I think this cute little short film exemplifies some of the good things that can come from them from time to time...

I've seen both sides and I like it when I see the good side represented and not just rudely glorified for the "kids" or whatever.

If you've never heard of Noam Chomsky or his book & movie called "Manufacturing Consent" then you really should go to Hulu.com and search for it and give it a watch...

It's basically all about how Professor Chomsky has throughout his life worked to discover why/how our Government & those in power (like Big Business and the media) do things to marginalize the people by playing on their fears and on one another so they'll feel powerless and that they have no real voice or part in our democratic government...

A lot of what he talks about is now common knowledge for many, as far as the "news" or mainstream American news doesn't really cover THE NEWS, doesn't let anyone talk for any real length of time which is needed to talk about any subject of real matter. If you can't explain what you want to say in between commercials then basically you don't get to say shit, EVER. How the media is totally biased and for the most part takes whatever the government tells us as gospel...

He talks about a lot of other parts to it but all in all it's really fascinating and inspiring at the same time. Just makes me feel good knowing there are people who think similar ideas as I've thought and to listen/watch to Professor Chomsky go on with all his great knowledge on analysis & research and the like... It's really great.

Well, I've never seen them before and to say I really missed out seeing them with Nick their former drummer would be an understatement... Honestly though with the new drummer from the Ravonette's is it? Anyways she's really REALLY good! On top of which BRMC as a whole seems to have gone back to it's roots while still being able to mix up their sounds on the album.

Beat the Devil's Tattoo is the culmination of everything BRMC has done up until now and it shows. With songs that seemingly could come from any one of their 1st 3 albums yet not entirely directly FROM said albums. If that makes any sense at all lol...

Just got/heard the new Gorillaz - Plastic Beach... Here's a track by track review: 1 - etc. = Awesome!

LOL. Sorry couldn't resist. All of it is great, obviously though obvious highlights to me I hate to say(not really) is every song not "featuring" anyone. Again, don't get me wrong the tracks with guests are really good as well. It's just the ones with pretty much just Damon Albarn(2-D) in them are just down right better in lyrics, flow, rhythm, pretty much in every way a song can be. I don't know if he just decided to keep the best songs for himself or if I'm just way biased but honestly I think they're much better songs then the ones with guests featuring. Maybe I'm wrong.

All in all though it's another landmark album and Damon took the Gorillaz in a completely different direction again. A tip of the hat...

P.S. - Shit I knew I forgot something! another highlight would be The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, the tracks with them are really insane. I love em, they made a fan out of me at least.

I just got ReFx's Nexus 2 and wow... Just wow. I had played around with Nexus before but they've really stepped it up sound wise in my book. A lot to pretty much all of their presets are awesome right out of the box and their system to manipulate the sound and arp is just as great.

It's all VERY easy to get great stuff out of basically. This is easily going to be a mainstay of my MANY vsts... If you go for broke and get some of the expansions as well. You're in for even more of a treat!

HIGHLY recommend!

Since I've been so busy lately I haven't gotten ANYTHING done musically lately... I know what drag.

But as it is I'm taking all of today to both watch myself lose AGAIN in fantasy football AND I'll be putting out at least 2 new songs. I hope you like them because they'll both be done well um how I do things now.

I've figured out a way to play live with my guitar, keyboards and Ableton running with occasional Monome and Reason action. But it's all live I don't pre-record anything anymore.

I figured what's the point of just recording tracks over and over if I'm just going to have to figure out how to do it live anyways? So that's what I've done. Again, hope you like it and stay tuned later tonight. Tomorrow at the latest I hope.

Don't ask how... But I've been testing the new to come out soon HOPEFULLY, Microsoft Office 2010 and WOW... Simply WOW, Outlook alone with the ever so slight adjustments they've made and tweaks built in now. It's going to make my life as an IT professional a bit easier I think!

If you have a chance to check it out or no someone that would let you use their copy(*cough*thepiratebay*cough*).

And PLEASE if you have already get the x64 bit version of Office 2010 and if you're Windows 7 isn't x64 bit... Then PLEASE re-install Windows 7 again wtih the x64 bit version. If you have a machine that's younger than 2 years YOU WILL BE THANKING ME AND x64 technology.

x64 - EVERYTHING!!!

I had just installed the x64 version of Office 2007 at work and was simply BLOWN AWAY at the seemingly small improvements... except speed-wise and feature-wise I was really geekin' out over it.

So, I got home and looked into things and now am currently checking out Office 2010 x64 version of coarse... I must say I LOVE IT. I love all the changes they've made, setting up emails is SO much more simple and logical.

I HIGHLY recommend getting Office 2010 AS SOON AS IT COMES OUT. Save up or whatever you have to do to get it, because it will be so much better than what's the "standard" it already is...

I'll post some screen shots and some video's showing some of the cool new features so stay tuned!

This is the video of the fruits of my labor for about 3 weeks now getting version 10.5.8 of OS X running the best/smoothest possible. It's quick and doesn't go into as much detail as I thought I would have.

Just know that I never wanted to run Leopard anyways I wanted to use Snow Leopard.

Oh well, maybe one day I can just get a real Mac. Until then it's all Windows 7 x64 for me! At least when it comes to making music on it. That's for sure. Anyways because of CPU load issues, sound card issues and generally it being a hack job. I doubt I'll try/use any of that again unless it's with a real Mac ;)

It was cool to learn and if I use it at all it will be for educational purposes only. MINE! lol

Here are the screens of my iDeneb 10.5.8 that I'll be using for Logic & Ableton... We'll see what else because Final Cut Studio 3 looks MIGHTY fuckin appealing!!!

There's my dual monitor set up as well now! If only they were the same size. Now I know how woman with breasts that are largely different sizes somehow might feel... LOL.

Here are the pics and info on my "gig" laptop... Can't lug around my desktop to any live shows or at least I wouldn't want to if I could avoid it! 4GB RAM needs to be 8GB but that's coming soon! 2 hard drives both at 7,200RPM - desktop speed :)

I'll have more pics and vids up with Ableton and Reason ReWired and my iPhone hooked up too! :) can't forget the Akainome a.k.a. - Akai APC 40 & Monomulator :)

Back to a regular change in pace on what this blog is all really about. NOT SKANKS, lol... Trust me.

Lately I've been getting my PC to run a version of the Mac OS X Leopard put out by a group called iDeneb or that's what the releases are called anyways. Currently I'm running OS X Leopard 10.5.8 and have 1 or 2 glitches I haven't fixed quite yet.

Otherwise I can't wait for it to be possible to use my XF-I Elite Pro with it sometime soon, I mean my M-Audio Fast Track Pro is cool and works but the sound quality is not as good. At least for playback I haven't had too much time to really test.

More info to come as my mission to upgrade to Snow Leopard continues!!! :)

Oh and here's a link to a shit ton of information on and about OSx86 they're slogan seems to be "The home of OSx86" so I suppose they're right with all they have.

LOL... Most people knew that something like more than 50% of the money you come into contact with has traces of cocaine. Well, a study was just conducted that it's not calculated at around 90% of all money in circulation right now has trace amounts of cocaine!

Honestly it's no suprize to me and I hope it gets even worse. Then maybe someday, some time people will realize the war on drugs was the biggest mistake ever and they only made matters worse by pursuing it for so long...

The great Les Paul died today... It's true he was already old as dirt but still it makes me sad.

If you've ever seen Les Paul he was just simply great. I remember seeing some videos of him just jamming away in his elder years. It was awesome.

Anways, I'm gunna miss the chance to see that again.

As someone who's played the guitar since I was 12-13 and was a "Gibson" guitar man for much of that time, hearing this news sucks. That's life I guess. Bleh.

I DID IT!!! YES YES YES YES YES!!!

Wow, I can't believe it either. That from one purchase I now have 2!!! An it was EXACTLY the 2 I wanted... instead of paying $1000+ for both I only paid for the Akai and because of some VERY awesomely smart and crafty people I now have a fully operational MONOME!!!

I can't thank the people at Track Team Audio enough. They provide all the stuff to do this for free. 1st chance I get I'm going to make a nice fat purchase from them to show my appreciation. Cuz I do very much appreciate!!!

Okay off I go to check out some apps for the Monome, see which one I like the best for now... WOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooP!

Transforming Akai APC 40!!! OMG YAY!

So I was messing about with my Akai APC 40 as per usual last night. When in doing so I came across this information on how to turn an AAPC40 into a Monome!!! As you can guess I immediately was interested and HAD to check it out.

BTW, I came THIS close to buying a Monome instead of the Akai APC 40 and I probably will still purchase a 128 or 256 version at some point down the line. So the fact I can now have both is pretty much fucking AWESOME! :)

I didn't really get to have it up and running all the way, it was past 2am for fuck's sake lol... However I did get most of the setup done and it partially works, hehehe. I can't wait to get home and finish things up so I can start trying out some Monome apps!

I'm SO excited, SO giddy! Tee hee, lol...

Here's a link to Track Team Audio's website. They're the company who makes the conversion software. They also offer other free goodies for Ableton, it's really quite nice actually. I highly recommend you check them out if you use Ableton at all and you HAVE to check it out if you own an Akai APC 40. YOU HAVE TO, PERIOD. ;)

One of the many stories I get from the great site Create Digital Music is one of the "Humanthesizer" ... I guess Scotsman & electronic artist Calvin Harris worked with a team of people to use skin safe conductive ink to syth sound and basically recreate his new single from little more than the humans themselves and some ink/paint!

Oh yeah, did I mention the humans he's working with are cute bikini clad women??? Well, enjoy! I did :)
